low carb soup

There is something about the first properly chilly day of fall that immediately makes me want a big bowl of soup. And while I love comfort food, I also want my dinners to actually keep me full. That’s why I’ve pulled together these healthy high protein low carb soup recipes.

They’re warming, satisfying and packed with everything from chicken and ground beef to sausage, vegetables and plenty of creamy, cheesy goodness.

There’s a really good mix here too. You’ll find easy high protein soup recipes, low carb vegetable soups, creamy keto soups and stews, slow cooker recipes, Instant Pot soups and simple one-pot dinners.

A lot of these would also be brilliant for low carb meal prep. Make a big batch at the beginning of the week and you’ve got easy lunches or dinners ready to go when you really cannot be bothered to cook.

So if soup season has officially started in your house too, here are 23 recipes I think are well worth adding to your fall dinner rotation.

1. High Protein Low Carb Chicken Vegetable Soup

I love a classic chicken soup, and this one has all the cosy comfort-food vibes while still being packed with chicken and vegetables.

The squash makes it feel a little more substantial, while paprika, thyme and parsley add loads of flavour without making the recipe complicated.

It’s also one of those low carb vegetable soup recipes you can easily adapt depending on what vegetables you already have in the fridge.

2. Keto Cheeseburger Soup with Ground Beef

Cheeseburger flavours in soup form? I’m completely sold.

This keto cheeseburger soup has ground beef, bacon, tomato and cheese, so it still feels properly rich and comforting without needing the bun. I especially like this one for those nights when you want something indulgent but still want to stick with a lower carb dinner.

If you’ve been searching for a low carb cheeseburger soup, this is definitely one to try.

3. Low Carb Cabbage & Sausage Soup

Cabbage and sausage is such a good combination for colder weather because it makes a really hearty soup without needing loads of heavy ingredients.

This one combines smoked sausage with cabbage, carrots, celery, onion and peppers, then adds paprika, oregano and garlic for extra flavour. It’s veggie-packed, warming and exactly the sort of easy fall soup I want bubbling away on the stove when it’s miserable outside.

4. Creamy Keto Tuscan Chicken Soup

This is the kind of soup that doesn’t really feel like you’re eating a “healthy” dinner.

You’ve got tender chicken, garlic, spinach and sun-dried tomatoes in a gorgeous creamy broth, with cauliflower blended in to help make everything thicker. If you love creamy keto soup recipes, I think this Tuscan chicken version looks particularly good.

5. Instant Pot Keto Tuscan Sausage Soup

If you want those Tuscan flavours but prefer sausage, try this one.

Italian sausage, kale, sun-dried tomatoes, garlic and onion are cooked together in a creamy broth, and because it’s an Instant Pot keto soup, most of the work is done for you.

Definitely one I’d bookmark for a busy weeknight when you want comfort food without spending all evening cooking.

6. High Protein Chicken & Cauliflower Soup

This is basically a lighter, low carb take on chicken and rice soup, using cauliflower rice instead.

It’s loaded with vegetables, has plenty of chicken for protein and only takes around 30 minutes. I love recipes like this because they feel like proper homemade comfort food without requiring an entire afternoon simmering something on the stove.

7. Low Carb Ground Beef & Vegetable Soup

Ground beef works so well in soup when you want something that actually feels filling enough to count as dinner.

This version combines beef with plenty of vegetables and makes a big batch, so it would be especially good for low carb meal prep. You can keep portions for lunches during the week or freeze some for those nights when cooking isn’t happening.

8. Creamy High Protein Chicken Broccoli Soup

Chicken and broccoli is already such an easy high protein combination, but turning it into a creamy soup makes it so much more comforting.

What I particularly like about this recipe is that it uses puréed cauliflower to create that creamy texture while sneaking in another vegetable at the same time. A clever option if you’re looking for high protein soup that still feels rich and cosy.

9. Keto Taco Soup with Ground Beef

low carb soup

This sounds like such a good alternative when you’re craving tacos but it’s freezing outside.

Ground beef, tomatoes, chillies, cream cheese, cream and spices create a rich, creamy soup with loads of taco flavour. It’s also a one-pot recipe and can be adapted with different meats and vegetables, which always gets bonus points from me.

10. Slow Cooker Low Carb Chicken Taco Soup

This is exactly my kind of slow cooker dinner: throw everything in and come back later.

Chicken, tomatoes, green chillies, cream cheese, taco-style seasonings and chicken broth cook together into a creamy soup with hardly any hands-on work. It also makes plenty, so leftovers can be frozen for another easy dinner.

Definitely one to add to your list of keto Crock Pot soups.

11. Instant Pot Low Carb Chicken Soup

Sometimes you just want proper old-fashioned chicken soup, and this gives you all of that comfort without waiting hours for it to cook.

It combines tender chicken, vegetables and herbs for that classic homemade flavour, but the Instant Pot speeds everything up. It’s naturally high protein and low carb, making it a really useful everyday dinner to have in your rotation.

12. High Protein Turkey & Vegetable Soup

This is one I would definitely save for after Thanksgiving or Christmas when you’ve somehow ended up with a fridge full of leftover turkey.

It’s creamy, full of flavour and ready in around 30 minutes. Turning leftover meat into protein soup recipes like this is such an easy way to make another meal without feeling like you’re eating exactly the same dinner for three days straight.

13. Keto Chicken Enchilada Soup

If normal chicken soup feels a little boring, this chicken enchilada version brings a lot more flavour.

It’s zesty, cheesy and creamy while still being surprisingly straightforward to make. I love having a few healthy keto soup recipes like this in the mix because low carb dinners definitely don’t have to mean plain chicken and vegetables every night.

14. Creamy Keto Mushroom Chicken Soup

Chicken and mushrooms in a creamy, cheesy soup sounds like peak fall comfort food to me.

This recipe is packed with tender chicken and earthy mushrooms and has a seriously impressive amount of protein too. One serving contains around 55g of protein according to the recipe, making this one of the higher protein soups in this roundup.

15. Low Carb Italian Sausage & Spinach Soup

This is another great one-pot option for the nights when washing up needs to be kept to an absolute minimum.

Italian sausage and spinach are combined in a creamy, savoury broth, and the whole thing takes around 25 minutes. You can also give it a little kick of heat if you prefer your soups slightly spicy.

16. High Protein Egg Roll in a Bowl Soup

low carb soup

I already love the idea of egg roll in a bowl, so turning those same flavours into soup feels perfect for colder weather.

This one-pot recipe is simple, budget-friendly and packed with those familiar savoury egg roll flavours. It’s exactly the sort of easy homemade recipe that would be handy to keep on repeat throughout fall and winter.

17. Low Carb Beef & Cabbage Soup

This gives you all those comforting cabbage roll flavours without actually having to stand there rolling cabbage leaves.

Ground beef, green cabbage and tomatoes are cooked together in one pot to make a hearty low carb ground beef soup that’s perfect for busy weeknights. Even better, it apparently tastes great the next day and freezes well, so this would be another brilliant meal-prep option.

18. Creamy Keto Buffalo Chicken Soup

Buffalo chicken fans, this one is for you.

Instead of another mild creamy chicken soup, this version brings that spicy Buffalo flavour into a warm, creamy bowl of comfort food. I love including recipes like this because they prove low carb soup ideas can still be fun and packed with flavour.

19. One-Pot Low Carb Chicken Fajita Soup

This chicken fajita soup has all those bold, spicy fajita flavours but turns them into a creamy one-pot dinner.

According to the recipe, one serving has around 40g of protein and 11g net carbs, so it fits perfectly into this collection of high protein low carb recipes. And because it’s all made in one pot, it’s a particularly good option for busy weeknights.

20. High Protein Cauliflower Cheese Soup

If cauliflower cheese is one of your favourite comfort foods, this soup version sounds so good.

It’s thick, cheesy and creamy, with a texture that’s apparently surprisingly similar to potato soup. Everything is made in one pot too, so it’s a really easy way to turn one of the classic low carb veggies into something that feels much more indulgent.

21. Keto Meatball & Vegetable Soup

Meatballs instantly make soup feel more substantial to me, which is exactly what I want when I’m having soup as my main dinner.

This one combines keto-friendly meatballs with plenty of fresh vegetables for a hearty meal. The meatballs can also be prepared ahead of time and the finished soup freezes well, making it another really useful keto meal prep recipe.

22. Low Carb Chicken & Courgette Soup

This is a really simple option if you want something lighter than the creamy soups in this list.

Tender chicken thighs are cooked with courgettes and a handful of other vegetables, without potatoes, noodles or rice. You still get a satisfying bowl of chicken soup, just with fewer carbs and plenty of vegetables.

23. Creamy Garlic Parmesan Chicken Soup

I’m finishing with one for anyone who believes garlic and Parmesan make pretty much everything better.

This creamy chicken soup combines tender chicken, spinach, tomato and sun-dried tomato flavours with garlic and Parmesan.

It can also be made in the Instant Pot or slow cooker, which makes it an easy option for those days when you want dinner mostly taking care of itself.

And if you’re loving the idea of dinners that practically cook themselves, I’ve also rounded up 19 healthy high-protein Crockpot dinner recipes. There’s everything from creamy chicken and curries to beef stews, tacos, chilli and slow cooker soups, so it’s a really good one to save for busy weeknights.

Which High Protein Low Carb Soup Will You Try First?

I think soup can sometimes get a reputation for being the dinner you eat when you’re trying to be “good”, but these recipes definitely prove it doesn’t have to be boring or leave you hungry again an hour later.

By combining plenty of protein foods like chicken, turkey, sausage, meatballs and ground beef with low carb veggies, you can make a bowl of soup into a genuinely satisfying meal.

There are plenty of options here if you’re following a low carb meal plan or simply looking for healthier fall soup recipes.

You’ve got creamy keto soups, vegetable soups, Instant Pot recipes, Crock Pot soups and easy one-pot dinners, so hopefully there’s something for whatever kind of night you’re having.

A lot of these high protein low carb soup recipes are also perfect for making ahead. Portion them up for lunches, keep a couple of servings in the fridge or freeze suitable recipes so you’ve always got an easy homemade dinner ready to go.

Personally, I think I’d start with the creamy Tuscan chicken, cheeseburger soup or chicken fajita soup.

Although once fall properly arrives, I could quite happily work my way through all 23.
